Mentor Me

Leadership Handbook for Gen Z

By Lyndsey L. Thompson, MBA

About the Book

Mentor Me: Leadership Handbook for Gen Z is a practical, candid handbook designed to help Gen Z navigate an increasingly competitive and uncertain job market with clarity and confidence. Drawing on real-world experience rather than abstract theory, the book centers on three core pillars—mentorship, leadership development, and real-world practice—to show readers how to build momentum early in their careers. It explains what is changing in today’s workplace, including the impact of AI and automation, why early career decisions matter more than ever, and how leadership is less about titles and more about influence, reliability, and personal credibility. Throughout, the tone is direct and grounded, offering clear frameworks, relatable examples, and actionable guidance that readers can apply immediately.

For Gen Z readers, this handbook serves as a roadmap for standing out in a crowded field—teaching how to find mentors, build confidence, communicate effectively, and gain experience even without a traditional resume. For parents and educators, it offers reassurance that this guidance is grounded, responsible, and focused on long-term growth rather than shortcuts or hype. Mentor Me is not about perfection or having life figured out early; it’s about taking action, learning faster, and avoiding common missteps that cost young adults years of momentum. Whether you’re a student preparing to enter the workforce or an adult looking to equip the next generation for success, this handbook provides a steady, practical starting point.

About Lyndsey

For more than two decades, Lyndsey has led people through high-pressure environments where clarity, preparation, and trust mattered—often when the stakes were high and the margin for error was small. As a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel with over 21 years of service, she's spent her career developing teams, guiding young leaders, and helping individuals step into responsibility before they felt fully “ready.” She didn’t start out with all the answers—nor did the Soldiers she led—but what she learned is this: confidence is built through mentorship, repetition, and having someone willing to walk the path with you while you figure it out.

Today, that same commitment drives her work with Gen Z as they enter one of the most competitive and uncertain job markets in recent history. Lyndsey believes young adults don’t need more theory or motivational slogans—they need honest guidance, practical tools, and early exposure to the habits and skills that employers actually value. Her approach focuses on mentorship, leadership development, and real-world practice—helping you understand how the workplace really works, how to stand out early, and how to build confidence through action rather than waiting until you feel “qualified.” She also recognizes the role parents and educators play in this transition, and aims to be a steady, credible voice they can trust to support young people with both realism and care.

Her faith plays a grounding role in how she leads and mentors—shaping a belief that each person is capable of growth, purpose, and meaningful contribution when given the right support and accountability. Everything she teaches is designed to move you forward: to take initiative, seek mentorship, build experience early, and stop waiting for permission to start becoming who you’re capable of being. If you’re ready to take ownership of your future instead of feeling stuck or overwhelmed by it, you’re in the right place.
